“PROLOGUE”The ease of internet access in this day and age has provided the speed of information for every single level and corner of society. With technology playing a large instrumental part in modern everyday life, the use of it has become the norm. Knowing that norm, it's no surprise that the growth of the arts and the creation process of an artist often actively studies the connections between humans and tech that are interconnected in complex and often unpredictable ways. Indonesia did not escape from this complex, the development and topic of contemporary art in this country is full of many artists who explore the tech mediums that were originally located outside the arts. A world of new possibilities without loss of identity.In the Indonesian language, Aksara, meaning a system of an existing language that is represented with symbols, is a part of creating. That system is important to take into consideration in an artist's creation process of self expression. Creation processes of artists will always be connected to the mechanization of modern life and the technologies we face.The lives of contemporary Indonesian youth have been interfered with and influenced by a multitude of media and easily accessed tools, not only have they positioned themselves merely as consumers, but also the producers of media content. Today, when “Video” is so easily accessible, availability of increasingly cheaper and easier to handle media production equipment, and massively locally developed, Video Art is the most deserving of discourse as an art discipline.When platforms like Tiktok brings fifteen second edits of techno music with someone in front of a green screen running away from a dinosaur (one of the actual works exhibited at aksara: prologue exhibition) reaches a million views (which is an art in itself) and the use of editing and “sound engineering” is easily accessed by everyone, who can decide what is video art and what isn't?This anomaly demonstrates that these works of video art are part of a national creative and social vanguard that reflect on, criticize and rework the multidimensional impact of the visual media in imaginative and innovative ways. Especially combined with local geniuses, there should be more light on Indonesia being one of the world’s most vibrant sources of contemporary art, media experimentation, and innovative interdisciplinary framework of visual culture.“ANOMALI”After discussing themes of a creative process in a post-internet society and the anomalies of Indonesian local genius interpretations of the internet, it sparked a spirit to create more on themes of anomalies.
